Our Story
Many years ago, my daughter and I stumbled upon an abandoned dog at our local animal shelter. We had no intention of adopting a dog that day and although he was filthy, scruffy, and not at all what my family needed at the time, he had the gentlest spirit, kindest eyes, and a warmth about him I have never fully been able to explain. He was, quite simply, irresistible. So, it is he who inspired me to write many things including, Found at the Pound.
Found at the Pound is a darling story that touches the heart of everyone who reads it! Relatable, inclusive, and fun, with a cadence and universal message that readers of all ages enjoy. Seeing the way people react to our book, with its adorable imagery, continues to fuel our focus to have it more widely read.

AUTHOR
Maggie Mullikin grew up in Chappaqua, NY, received a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from James Madison University, works at Elon University, and resides in Greensboro, NC with her husband Bill and their dog Niko.
Maggie is a wife, mom, and animal lover. Her jobs throughout her life have been eclectic, fun and with purpose. Without hesitation, the best thing she ever did was stay home to raise her children, Will and Lindsay. Whether she is writing a professional document, a thank you note, a letter, or a story, she is always happy to be able to put pen to paper.
This is Maggie’s first children’s book, and it looks at the power and joy of pet adoption. She draws inspiration from life's experiences, her dear friend, and illustrator Nick, and most of all her children.

ILLUSTRATOR
Originally from Greensboro, NC, Nick Cook was that kid growing up—the one who got in trouble for drawing on the walls (or anything else he could get his hands on). After earning his M.A. from Elon University, Nick put his graphic design and illustration skills to the test in the advertising world. He now runs his own design business specializing in branding, illustration, and visual storytelling. Nick currently lives in Durham, NC with his wife and son, and loves calling Bull City home.
He credits his dear friend and Found at the Pound author, Maggie, for being his inspiration and guide throughout the process of bringing the book to life.
